Is my Mercedes Benz Sprinter van safe?
The Mercedes Benz Sprinter pulls out all of the stops when it comes to your safety. It has a whole slew of new safety features that make it as safe, possibly even safer, than many of the Mercedes Benz passenger cars. Some of these features include a radar-based Distance Assist DISTRONIC, Active Brake Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, and ATTENTION ASSIST. It has an assist function for traffic signs, which will direct additional attention to speed limits, no-entry, and no-overtaking restrictions and when those restrictions end. Vehicles with the Parking package have access to a 360-degree camera for parking and general driving awareness. Furthermore, many vehicles after 2013 have the Crosswind Assist standard, this detects powerful winds and alerts the driver, allowing them to maintain their lane.
Distance Assist utilizes radar-based technology in the front bumper to maintain a specific distance and speed away from any car in front of it, detecting changes in speed and distance and adjusting as needed, braking at up to 50% power. Think of it as the ultimate cruise control for stop and go traffic. If the system detects a potential collision due to emergency braking, it allows the brake assist system to override it, fully stopping the vehicle. If the vehicle is stopped for 3 seconds or less, it will automatically resume, however, if the vehicle is stopped for more than 3 seconds, the system must be reactivated either by briefly touching the accelerator or by reactivating the system on your vehicle’s steering wheel. This system is also used in Rear-Cross Traffic Alert, which detects potential collisions from the side and back as well, especially when reversing. Finally, the vehicle has blind spot assist, which will give a visual and audio based warning to the driver when a vehicle enters their blindspots.
These features all add up to make an incredibly safe commercial van that strives to make it easier for the driver to be aware of everything on the road, protecting them, and others, with numerous safety features that cover blind spots, emergency braking, avoiding collisions, and ensuring easier parking.
